Maths Class – Now This Will Take Two Hands EP

1.    Nerves
2.    Deutsche
3.    Jonny Got The Jawline
4.    Branches
5.    Replays Of Relays

The only thing that is more infuriating than the prospect of a truly gash band is a group that screams ‘potential’ and yet seems to relish mediocrity. Maths Class do not quite reach this level of disappointment, but to suggest that they have not met their true capabilities as a band is an understatement. The funky basslines and computer game riffs of songs like ‘Deutshe’ could have been used to hone a sound which took the groove from Red Hot Chili Peppers and the premise of Enter Shikari and produce something truly excellent, but instead they have been left to lie in a shroud of tedious indie twattery that leaves Maths Class sounding like a dodgier version of The Automatic. Still, the basic qualities are there, so there’s no need to write off these Brighton newcomers quite yet.
