Canvas Solaris - The Atomized Dream

The Binaural Beat
Reflections Carried To Mirror
Chromatic Dusk
Patterns Spiral Into Swarm
Heat Distortion Manifest
Photovoltaic
Solar Droid
The Unknowable And Defeating Glow

Georgian progressive rockers, Canvas Solaris, have returned with their 4th release in 9 years.  Formerly a death metal outfit the quintet have taken on a more jazzy sound with plenty of technical flare.  The new members of the band have clearly improved that bands sound, but they still fuse highly technical metal with progressive and sometimes bizarre interludes.  However the addition of more keyboard arrangements to their songs gives added textures to songs that would normally be pretty average.

There are moments when the progressive interludes do cause you to lose interest in the songs but you attention is soon grabbed again as they let loose an almighty riff.
The sheer size of their sound is very impressive when you consider that they have no vocalist.  This just goes to show how skilled these musicians are.  Perhaps Canvas Solaris were somewhat wasted on the death metal scene, changing their sound could be the most important thing they ever do.

It is quite easy to fall into pitfalls of over indulgent, unlistenable boredom with progressive metal as is the cases with so many similar bands but Canvas Solaris seem to avoid this with ease, creating a proficient, listenable album.
