Grail of Sahara Forgotton Bride Beast Within Fade to Gray Swear Promise me Everything Mystery Flow Scars in My Heart Storm Rider Mist of Dawn Kuunpoika
Former Eurovision song contest entrant and classically trained Katra has blasted into the gothic metal genre, breathing life into a market dominated by Nightwish. ‘Beast Within’ is a magical experience and is beautifully crafted to properly accentuate all the talents that the Finnish red-head has to offer.
The main focus of the album shoots directly to the vocal capabilities of the siren, which although has shocking similarity to fellow Fin Tarja Turunen, exudes more feeling and warmth than the ill-fated vocalist ever could. She’s young, she’s vibrant, and where this album lacks (namely in the production in a few of the tracks) the talent and potential shines through making Katra something to be admired. From the super-atmospheric ‘Promise Me Everything,’ to the dizzying low-tempo lows of ‘Mystery,’ this has every single element that will wet the appetite of any symphonic metal follower.
The only disappointment is when the final track, ‘Kuunpoika’ plays out its last seconds. ‘Beast Within’ is a dazzling example of personal achievement to the most magnificent degree, and as she’s obviously got more to give to the world, we should all wait with baited breath for what she will throw at us next.
