Ted Maul Interview | Ted Maul Interview |
What Ted Maul have achieved thus far hasn’t come easy for these London aural swagglers; it hasn’t just fallen from the darkened, cold skies above them or simply racked out on a coke tray, oh no! To get such a twisted sonic monstrosity such as 2007’s ‘White Label’ released involved a lengthy turmoil beleaguered with line-up changes, financial hardship and time wasting label chit chat, but exemplary to the meaning of hard graft these sickened debauchers of the riff have solidified their place within the UK Metal scene. Lee ‘Beale’ posed a few quick questions to founding member, guitarist and overall wolfenized tattooed character GDRAX about the dirty riches reaped so far. Lee: What is Ted Maul all about, including the Fuck Life moniker? Gdrax: Ted Maul our band init,...makin noise that is a little bit weirder. The fuck life ting is just something we all say, like 'ah fuck life' when shit gets to ya.... Come on everybody...fuck life! Since the release of 'White Label', did the reception from fans and critics alike exceed your expectations? yeah man we are well happy with the response we got with the album and from the reviews it got and from kids who are diggin’ it, well happy Did you ever think that the heavy inclusion of Drum & Bass wouldn't be accepted amongst the metal community, were you ever worried about it or not? We weren’t worried man because we are makin’ music for ourselves anyway I don’t see the point makin’ music you think someone else wants to hear...defies the point eh. You've now been touring solid around the UK? How has that been? We are takin’ care of business all yourselves drivin’ round n playin’ shows n’ crashin’ on floors after brutal nights of devilry it can intense! It’s been a wicked laugh man, met loads of wicked people from all over UK. You also played Download 08 and BOA 08, two of the largest metal fests this year in the UK, obviously you guys must've been chuffed to get to play, how did those shows go? We were pestering download for time and they told us there was no room and if something came up they would let us know...we thought they were like ‘yeah whatever’...but about 3 weeks before the fest they said someone had pulled out n we replaced ‘em...we were well happy...been goin’ to Donington since fuckin’ 95 man, was well happy it was my turn now!! Bloodstock was wicked too man, proper weekends of the devil..at both fests we had all our boys with us all weekend it was like a proper family outin’!! ha ha ![]() You are often described with a mish mash of different musical influences, what are Ted Maul's musical influences? We are into different shit but we are all into the thrash/death metal so that’s the link between us... bands like Deicide, Suffocation, Testament are some of the bands we all agree on. Then like all of us listen to loadsa shit that ain’t even remotely metal There is a song on the album, called, "For The Innocent", which is referencing the 7/7 terrorist attacks, coming from London, do you feel that this was something that greatly affected you, was it a concious decision to write a song about it? Yeah man...its London where your mates n’ family were on trains...we all get that shit so that tune was our way of say safe to those who died and fuck you to any cunt who wants to bomb or kill other people over shit...government, religious or whatever. Fuck that shit You've had a number of line-up changes since you guys started, do you feel now that the line-up has settled and is more solid in time for the 2nd album? Man the line up thing is changing again with the departure of our drummer Matt the Cave g...he has already been replaced by T Wick or Tori the ex Kingsize Blues drummer... I think as long as ted maul still has original members in it that are all bros that’s cool for us... Have you started writing the 2nd album? Is there any info you could give on that, possible new influences and ideas into the band? writing new shit for second attack now...this time we are all writing together where as alot of the older stuff was written by just a couple of us...just gotta wait n’ see man its Ted Maul... Anything you want to say to the fans of Ted Maul out there? Big respect to anyone whos come down to see us and got mangled with us and enjoyed our music massive Fuckin Safe !!! gdrax Interview by Lee M. |
